Q: what is the difference in the foam filter and the cotton pad
A: The cellular nature of the foam filters make them more porous and thus they let the air go through them. The dirt gets trapped in the structure. The cotton pad, once clogged with dirt, will let lesser and lesser amount of air to go thru resulting into motor getting over heated.
